This unit professional Toolkit, this particular studio shoot group work has been a great learning and practical experience for me, I learnt a lot about directing and how to direct and communicate with actors properly to achieve the desired result. Being a 2nd AD then changed to because harry wasnt inducted into the ex3 workshop. Being a Camera operator and storyboard artist for this short 1 minute ad called 'Consumerism Campaign' It felt like being part of a professional film crew because I had multiple roles, as this had been the first time within a group I had more then one role. I volunteered myself for the wanting to do the storyboard because I felt I could deliver a professional detailed and descriptive storyboard as I personally wanted this to be professional. I wanted to be an 1st AD the lowdown of this role being:
- Being the Director's right-hand person, taking responsibility for a number of important practicalities so that the Director is free to concentrate on the creative process
- Breaking down the script into a shot-by-shot storyboard, working with the Director to determine the shoot order, and how long each scene will take to film.
- Drawing up the shooting schedule (a timetable for the filming) and making sure it’s kept to.
Nonetheless i was happy to be camera operator and take some of the reponsibilites such as the liasing with the director and DOP to draw out a shot by shot storyboard. I felt confident and felt that I could shoot a professional looking film and so took the part of being the camera operator aswell as being an storyboard artist . Within this process having undertook the role of operator I learnt the following and what it takes to be a good operator to achieve the desired result:
- assembling and setting up equipment
- planning, preparing and rehearsing scenes
- following camera scripts
- creatively framing and capturing action
- responding quickly to directions
- liaising with lighting and technical staff
Overall I have found this studio shoot fun and have enjoyed the experience, and am happy to have worked within a group with such talented and skillful individuals, and have no doubt that this video will be a success and will look aesthetically look after it has been edited. Being apart of this group, working with people I haven't worked with before learning from them and having directing actors workshops and avid workshops this has broadened my mind about filming industry and along this process would say it has developed my skills and I now know more then I did last year. It has made me rethink the field I want to go into either camera operator, storyboarding or directing these may be the three options I may consider going into. However I found this studio shoot of great fun and have learnt a lot and yes I know Im saying it again the film will no doubt look good once edited next year and hopefully look forward to working with the same hard working individuals in future projects.
P.s color grading the film was really fun and extremely enjoyed it. I may consider a career in either storyboarding or a colorist.
